At least 4 dead, 20 injured in attack on Afghan television station

Kabul, Nov 7 (efe-epa).- At least four people, including two attackers, were killed and 20 wounded on Tuesday in an attack against private television station Shamshad TV in the Afghan capital Kabul, according to the country's Interior Ministry.

Afghan Interior Ministry spokesperson Najib Danish told EFE that two security guards and two attackers died during the assault, which ended with the intervention of Afghan security forces after a three-hour shootout inside the Shamshad TV building.

The channel said on its Twitter account: "at least 20 staffers and journalists wounded," although Danish said there were four firefighters among the injured.

The Islamic State terror organization claimed responsibility for the attack through its Amaq News Agency.

Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid had earlier said on Twitter that the group was not involved in the attack.

The attack began with grenades being thrown against the station's security post before the assailants entered the building.

Most of the station's employees were evacuated during the attack, although some remained inside the building until the attackers were shot dead.

In May, a group of armed men attacked the National Radio Television (RTA) station in Afghanistan's Jalalabad, the capital of the eastern Nangarhar province, during which the three attackers and two civilians were killed.

A week ago, at least three people were killed and 15 were injured in an attack during rush hour in the diplomatic region of Kabul where several embassies and government offices are located.
