EU top diplomat Mogherini meets with Kyrgyz President in Brussels

Brussels, Apr 12 (efe-epa).- The European Union's top diplomat met Thursday in Brussels with the president of Kyrgyzstan to discuss ongoing talks regarding a future agreement between the two, which would see improved bilateral relations and increased cooperation.
According to an EU statement, the meeting Federica Mogherini and Sooronbay Jeenbekov also covered relations between central Asian states and Kyrgyzstan's socio-economic development, as well as updates to the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement.
"Mogherini reiterated the EU's commitment to support the continued consolidation of democracy, a professional and independent judiciary, and the rule of law, as well as sustainable economic growth in the Kyrgyz Republic," read the statement.
Jeenbekov is scheduled to meet the heads of the European Commission and Council, Jean-Claude Juncker and Donald Tusk, later on Thursday and further negotiations on the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement are slated for Tuesday and Wednesday.
