Nintendo to launch Switch Lite in September

Tokyo, Jul 10 (efe-epa).- Japanese video game manufacturer Nintendo has announced Wednesday it will launch a hand held version of its popular Switch Lite console later this year.

The company said the new device would launch on 20 September and would be available in three colors at the recommended retail price of $200.

The price point makes it $100 cheaper than the original console in the range, the Nintendo Switch.

“Now consumers can choose the system that best suits how they like to play their favorite Nintendo Switch games,” said the president of Nintendo of America, Doug Bowser, of the development in a statement.

Nintendo launched the Switch in March 2017.

The Lite version of the console will be smaller and feature built-in controls.

Gamers will be able to play all Switch games that support hand held mode, including Super Mario Maker 2, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Splatoon 2 and Super Smash Bros Ultimate, the company said.

The device features a 5.5-inch screen and weighs 277 grams.

It also runs on a battery capable of sustaining between three and seven hours of play, depending on the game the player is running.

Rumors over the product’s launch have been circulating for months until Nintendo finally announced a date Wednesday. EFE-EPA
