Fernandez wins EFE Trophy for best foreigner in Brazilian soccer tourney

Sao Paulo, Dec 4 (efe-epa).- The contest for the EFE Trophy, awarded to the best foreign soccer player in the Brazilian Championship 2017 went to Paraguayan goaltender Roberto "Gatito" Fernandez, with Botafogo, who beat out Martin Silva, his Uruguayan colleague on Vasco da Gama, by just one point.
The EFE Trophy Brazil is bestowed based on point totals for scoring, shots on goal, penalties, participating in a team victory or tying as visitors, along with detrimental stats such as own-goals or expulsions.
Goalkeepers receive two points per penalty shot intercepted and two for not allowing goals in any given match.
The list of eligible candidates for the award does not include Brazilians who played for the teams of other countries.
