Zidane dismisses criticism, says Real Madrid is doing well in games

Madrid, Dec 5 (efe-epa).- The coach of Real Madrid on Tuesday defended his team against critics and indicated that he was not worried because his players do very well on the field, though he said they needed to score more.

Speaking at a press conference on the eve of the Champions League's group stage match against German side Borussia Dortmund, Zinedine Zidane said he was tired of having to defend his team repeatedly.

"I think my team look in good shape but it's true we have to score more goals. The situation is not ideal in La Liga because we're eight points behind and that's for a reason, but I'm relaxed about it because I'm sure that's going to change. We're playing ok and I don't care what people are saying on the outside," he said.

"I can't change what people think, I'm not bothered by it. It's the way it goes in this job. Hard work is the only way to get out of this situation in La Liga and find the goals again. We'll keep working at it and I'm sure we'll be there or thereabouts at the end," he added.

Zidane also commented on the criticisms directed at his forward Cristiano Ronaldo, defending the Portuguese star player.

"We have to give Cristiano Ronaldo a bit more support and show more respect, but he's fine. He's so good that when things aren't going quite so well for him, people start to talk. The people who love him and Real Madrid know what he's doing: he's working hard until the goals start flowing again," Zidane said.

Regarding the last group stage match of the Champions League, the French coach showed interest in improving the image of his team against Borussia Dortmund.

"We know they've got a lot to play for. We've already qualified but we're focused on giving a good performance. We won't consider our opponent's position, we'll only be looking at ourselves, and that means playing a good match," he said.

"There's no easy draw in the Champions League not matter whether you finish first or second. Whoever we get, it'll be tough, and it's set to be a fantastic and challenging knock-out round," he added.
