Peru's Linda Lecca seeks second world boxing title

Lima, Sep 12 (efe-epa).- Peruvian boxer Linda Lecca will seek the second world title of her career in a fight on Friday at the Palazzohalle in Karlsruhe, Germany.

That upcoming bout against Jordanian-born German Raja Amasheh, holder of the World Boxing Organization's super flyweight belt, will come four months after Lecca lost her World Boxing Association super flyweight title to Mexico's Maribel Ramirez in a controversial decision.

"I think it's going to be a really good fight," she said in an interview with EFE before traveling to Germany, adding that she has used the Internet to study an opponent with a streak of 23 straight victories.

"She'll be defending her belt for the third or fourth time, but that's it, no more, because I'll be taking it back to Peru," the boxer said.

Lecca refuses to accept that she was beaten in ring in Lima on May 19 by Ramirez, saying that at no time did she feel she was being out-boxed and that the fairest decision would have been a draw that left her as the WBA's female super flyweight title holder.

"I feel like I'm still the champion. That's why this fight in Germany will be a bout of champion versus champion, and that's really motivating for me," Lecca said.

The 30-year-old said she now feels "more solid as a boxer, with more experience, confident, secure" and the ability to throw more combinations.

Beyond her life in the ring, Lecca also has entered the world of politics and will be a candidate for municipal office in Lima as a representative of the Peru Nacion party.

"My goal is to promote sports among children and young people so in the future we have kids who are dedicated, studious, responsible and with respect for their country," she added.
