China triumphs in table tennis, India in shooting, Argentina wins first gold

Buenos Aires, Oct 10 (efe-epa).- China on Wednesday won the first place in table tennis and India added a new gold in shooting, while host Argentina broke the curse and won its first gold on the fourth day of the 3rd Youth Olympic Games.

In a double Asian classic against Japan, the Chinese representatives won both individual finals. First Yingsha Sun defeated Miu Hirano 4-1 and the same result was repeated by Chuqin Wang against Tomokazu Harimoto.

At a sports venue in the Technopolis park, full to the brim, the Chinese pair celebrated their victory over their Japanese rivals and helped China climb to the third place in the medal table behind Russia and Hungary.

India, for its part, obtained another gold medal thanks to the victory achieved by Chaudhary Saurabh in the men's 10-meter air pistol competition.

The Indian national team has so far accumulated three golds and three silvers.

Meanwhile, Argentina was finally able to get its first gold thanks to the triumph of Maria Sol Ordas in an exiting the women's single sculls final against Swedish Elin Lindroth.

With three medals of each color, Argentina now hopes to raise their position on the medal table in the coming days as it has assigned the largest national sports team in history to the Games.

Europe has so far dominated in the swimming competitions as Italy won in the 50m freestyle event, Sweden in the 50m butterfly and Russia in the 50m backstroke as well as 100m breaststroke. The only exception was Japan, which prevailed in the 200m breaststroke.

Among other highlights on the fourth day of the 2018 Youth Olympics was Japan, which added one gold and one silver to their tally in the men's team sports climbing event, and Iran, which achieved double gold from the victories of Yalda Valinejad in the women's 63 kg weightlifting and Ali Eshkevari in the men's 73 kg weightlifting.

On Wednesday, mixed team events in fencing, gymnastics, judo and shooting were held as a trial for its possible incorporation in future Olympic Games.
