Curry shines as Warriors complete sweep of Blazers, advance to NBA Finals

Portland, USA, May 20 (efe-epa).- Stephen Curry scored 37 points on Monday night as the Golden State Warriors completed a four-game sweep of the Portland Trail Blazers to reach their fifth consecutive NBA finals.

The Warriors, who were without Kevin Durant and Andre Iguodala, rallied from 17 points down for the third consecutive game to win the best-of-seven series in four games.

“We’ve been here before, we’ve seen everything. We relied on our experience. We had starters down, but everybody stepped up," Curry said on court after the game.

He added 13 rebounds and 11 assists to his points total on another hugely productive night, while Draymond Green also finished with a triple-double, the first time two teammates have achieved that feat in a playoff game.

Portland were again unable to withstand the inevitable onslaught from the Warriors, whose grit and fight were as impressive as the ball movement and long-range shooting that have pushed them to the pinnacle of the sport.

Golden State are just the second team in history, and the first in 53 years, to make five consecutive NBA finals.

The fact that they completed a clean sweep of Portland without their star player Durant only adds to the sense that this group is among the best to ever lace up.

The Blazers will surely rue their missed opportunities throughout the series, having led by over 15 points in three of the four games without managing to seal the win.

Their two stars, Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum, failed to do enough to throw the Warriors off, despite scoring 28 and 26 points respectively.

Meyers Leonard led the scoring for the home team, putting up 30 points and 12 rebounds in his team’s losing effort.

“It’s the furthest we’ve played into the post-season, and that’s deeper water than what we’ve seen. It’s a little bit more, physically and mentally trying, the level of play is higher," Lillard said.

“I think it was a great experience for us. A lot of people will look back and say, ‘They got swept.' But we had double-digit lead in the last three games and just weren’t able to hold on to it. We showed that we’re capable of being here and competing at this level," Lillard added.

“Give the Warriors credit," Leonard said. “It was 15+ (deficits for Golden State) in three straight games, and yet they found a way to execute and get the job done."

“Now it’s time to take the summer, get better, come back as a collective unit and go again next year." he added.

The Warriors advance to the NBA Finals, which start on May 30, where they will face either the Toronto Raptors or the Milwaukee Bucks.
