Gran Canaria (Spain), Jun 25 (efe-epa).- Manchester City's midfielder David Silva asked Tuesday for confidence in Robert Moreno, the newly appointed head coach of Spain national team; the new coach replaces Luis Enrique who resigned.

"The truth is that everything is criticized in Spain, but you have to support him and give him a vote of confidence and wait for the results," Silva said during an event held in the Spanish town of Mogan, Gran Canaria.

"In the end, what matters in this kind of case is the trust placed in a coach, and we all have to do it."

The 33-year-old playmaker also discussed the results of Spain women national team in the 2019 World Cup tournament held in France, being narrowly eliminated from the round of 16 at the hands of the United States (2-1) on Monday.

"Now I'm a little disconnected from TV and soccer, because I'm enjoying (the vacations), but I know that the girls have done very well.

"In recent years, women's soccer has grown a lot in Spain and I'm happy (for that). Our players work hard and hopefully they can continue on that course," he added.

The Spaniard reiterated that he would like someday to play for his home-town team, Las Palmas, although he still has one season left on his contract with the Premier League champion and he will also have to listen to other opinions of his family.

Silva, who won the 2010 FIFA World Cup as well as the 2008 and 2012 Euro championships with Spain, pointed out he currently remains focused on completing his commitment with Man City, with which he won two successive PL titles.

"I still have one more year left in England and in soccer we do not think beyond the present," he said. "I have always said that I would like to play in Las Palmas, but we will see what happens next season and how I would be.

"Also, I have a family now and I must weigh other opinions," Silva expressed.

The international playmaker also talked about the performance of Las Palmas during the recent season, as the team finished in the 12th spot in Spain's second-tier league, La Liga 2.

"Last season has not been good, as everybody knows," Silva said.

"Betting on the youth academy players is fundamental, because a team like Las Palmas produces a lot of players and, besides, economically, in second tier you cannot spend a lot of money."

"The people here must receive support, because there has always been a good youth academy," Silva stressed. EFE
