Madrid, Jul 10 (efe-epa).- Real Madrid officially presented Wednesday its new signing, Eder Militao, at the VIP box of the club's Santiago Bernabeu stadium.
The 21-year-old Brazil defender gave a positive message to Madrid fans, saying he intends to make history at the La Liga powerhouse.
"I'm very happy to be in this moment, to play in the best club in the world thanks to the help of my father, my family and agents who have helped me get here," Militao expressed, adding it was a childhood dream that had come true.
The international defender, who has just won the 2019 Copa America trophy with Brazil, also thanked the club's president, Florentino Perez, for Perez' confidence, telling the team's supporters he intends to make them happy.
"It has been my heart that has helped me get here. I'm going to give everything on the field and I hope to have a great season and make history. Hala Madrid!" Militao said.
For his part, Perez described Militao as one of the best defenders in the world, alerting the Brazilian player of the great challenge that awaits him at the club.
"It's a very important day as we present one of those great players who will help us to achieve the challenges we have set for ourselves," Perez said.
"We have a great team, a fantastic group of players which include new talents with the desire to succeed at Real Madrid."
"Now you face the great challenge of your professional career," Madrid's president told Militao.
Earlier in the day, the player passed a trouble-free medical test, then he signed the contract that will tie him to the club until the summer of 2025.
Militao then stepped out on the Bernabeu pitch wearing Madrid's jersey and greeting the supporters who had come to the stadium to welcome him.
On Mar. 15, Madrid announced the signing of Militao, who then was a FC Porto player, for reportedly 50 million euros ($56 million), becoming the first summer acquisition of the Spanish club.
