Madrid, Aug 18 (efe-epa).- Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has achieved 283 victories with the La Liga side, equaling Paco Gento, and is en route to catching up to Manolo Sanchis, Raul Gonzalez and Iker Casillas.
Ramos reached the number after Real Madrid cruised past Celta Vigo 3-1 on Saturday in their La Liga opener; winning the first away La Liga match since March 10 when Real defeated Valladolid 4-1 at Jose Zorrilla stadium in Valladolid.
At the start of Ramos' 15th league since joining Real Madrid from Sevilla, the 33-year-old became the club's fourth player with the most victories in the domestic competition’s history.
"Getting a win away from home is a great start to the competition. We have to concentrate on what went right, on the good physical preparation we made in preseason,” Ramos said after the match on Saturday.
“We came into the game in the best way possible. This result was fair and we saw a typical Real Madrid side today,” he added.
It took Gento 427 league games to achieve 283 wins, a record Ramos has reached by his 420th La Liga match, allowing him to surpass Gento's record.
Ramos’ next targets will be Sanchis' 312 victories, Raul' 327 and Casillas' 334. EFE
