Chelsea's winless drought under Lampard goes on with 1-1 draw vs. Leicester

London, Aug 18 (efe-epa).- Frank Lampard's Chelsea on Sunday went winless for the third encounter in a row as the London side played to a 1-1 draw at home against Leicester City in Premier League matchday 2 action.

The Blue's early opener by promising midfielder Mason Mount was cancelled by Wilfred Ndidi's header after the intermission, as the deadlock reigned until the final whistle.

"We had a fantastic start, could be two or three goals up but after that we let Leicester back into the game," Lampard said following the match. "We have to improve, this is a process and we'll need a little bit of time."

Chelsea, under its legendary player and new coach Lampard, failed again to get a win, following its 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Manchester United in the PL season opener and a UEFA Super Cup shootout loss to Liverpool.

The home side had a brilliant start, controlling play and creating several dangerous scoring opportunities until Mount netted the ball home just seven minutes into the game.

The 20-year-old Mount, an international with the England U21 team, made the most of Ndidi's mistake in the build-up to stealing the ball and firing it into the back of helpless goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel's net.

Lampard continued to trust his talented young players, such as Mount, giving American winger Christian Pulisic a spot in the starting lineup as well.

The moves worked for Chelsea at the beginning of the game, but Leicester gradually started to take control of the match, a fact that became obvious in the second half.

Lining up Jamie Vardy, Ayoze Perez and James Maddison in the attacking line, the Foxes started to confuse Chelsea's defenders, but Leicester needed a set-piece to strike the equalizer.

Ndidi redeemed himself with a superb header in the 67th minute, making it 1-1 off Maddison's corner-kick cross that was badly defended by the Blues.

In the final stages of the match at Stamford Bridge, Maddison and Vardy were close to making the hosts' situation worse, but both teams shared match points at the end.

Chelsea then got its first point of the season out of two games, while Leicester came away with its second point after having played to a scoreless draw against the Wolverhampton Wanderers in their opener.

Elsewhere in the Premier League, newly promoted Sheffield United bagged its first top-flight victory at home for the first time in 12 years, edging Crystal Palace 1-0, thanks to midfielder John Lundstram's goal just after the break.

Sheffield United, under coach Chris Wilder, kicked off its PL campaign with 1-1 draw at Bournemouth, earning four points out of a possible six, while Crystal Palace has a single point. EFE-EPA
