Alex Rins snatches victory from Marquez in British MotoGP

Silverstone, England, Aug 25 (efe-epa).- In a podium dominated by Spaniards, Alex Rins of Suzuki earned his season’s second victory on Sunday at the British motorcycle Grand Prix in a stellar finish, prevailing over Repsol Honda rider Marc Marquez and Yamaha’s Maverick Viñales.

Rins knew how to wait for the right moment to get past Marquez when he least expected it.

The Honda racer knew how to close all the doors on his rival but he relinquished the penultimate lap to prepare for the last one.

Rins seized the opportunity and got past Marquez by 0.013 seconds.

“Unbelievable! I do not have words to explain,” Rins said when asked about his feelings to have won the British GP.

“I was so close to do a big mistake because two laps to the end, I was thinking it was the last lap.

“I was keeping the calm. I knew he was faster on that part of the sector but the last corner for me was unbelievable.

“I was much faster than him.”

Meanwhile, Marquez did not seem to be satisfied with the result.

The heat of the competition and the effort exerted to secure a win led 26-year-old Marquez to return to his garage for another motorcycle as he ran out of gas after crossing the finish line.

“Happy about the championship, but the race no,” Marquez said.

“I knew Rins had a big chance.

“I keep pushing because my target was not the race was the championship to take a lot of points.”

The Spaniard extended his lead in the general classification to 250 points, ahead of Ducati’s Andrea Dovizioso, who crashed on lap 1 with Fabio Quartararo (Petronas Yamaha SRT).

“After the big crash on lap 1 Andrea Dovizioso has nothing broken but has been transferred to Coventry Hospital for further checks due to a severe blow to the head that caused a momentary loss of memory,” Ducati posted to Twitter.

Both Dovizioso and Quartararo had to receive medical assistance.

Frenchman Quartararo was able to return to his garage by his own foot, unlike the Italian who, although raised his thumb to signal he was "OK", came out on a stretcher to the circuit’s medical center.

Viñales gave the impression of being able to approach the lead couple, but Marquez immediately increased the distance, making a new lap record.

“I was looking for the last laps, I thought I could catch them but…

“I tried my best.”

Both Rins and Marquez were paired towards the finish line with Viñales trying to get closer in events that raised heart-rates amongst spectators.

“The joy of victory and the agony of defeat!

“Marc Marquez and Alex Rins, you have put on a phenomenal show!” Moto Gp tweeted.

Yamaha’s Valentino Rossi of Italy finished fourth, followed by his teammate Franco Morbidelli.

Meanwhile, Spain’s Pol Espargaro (KTM RC 16) was placed ninth. EFE
