Barcelona, Sep 9 (efe-epa).- Barcelona is awaiting the return of Lionel Messi, who has yet to make his first appearance of the season due to injury, and Luis Suarez, who sustained an injury in the Catalan team’s La Liga opener.
Both players are ready to play, meaning that for the first time fans can see them on the pitch alongside the newly arrived Antoine Griezmann in a rematch of the Copa del Rey final.
Valencia emerged victorious in the cup final.
Messi sustained a right leg injury during a training session held on 5 August, missing the Barcelona tour in the United States.
The five-time Ballon d'Or winner posted on Instagram: “I wanted to start and unfortunately I had a setback in the first training that will leave me out for a while.
“I am grateful for all your messages and samples of affection, I wanted to be with the team and with the people who follow us in the USA.
"This time it may not be, but we will see each other again soon. A hug to all."
He last played on 6 July, in the third spot playoff at the Copa America against Chile, when Argentina won 2-1.
Messi missed three La Liga matches with Barcelona against Athletic Club, Real Betis and Osasuna.
He suffered an injury during Barça’s 1-0 defeat to Athletic Club in the league opener.
He last played on 16 August.
The former Liverpool player was diagnosed with a tear to the soleus muscle in his right leg.
Although the club did not say how long Suarez would be on the sidelines, this kind of injury normally takes around a month to heal.
He could have his first playing minutes of the season at the Camp Nou stadium in Saturday’s game.
He was the main signing this season after he joined the club for 120 million euros.
Due to Messi’s injury, he has yet to share the pitch with the Argentine star and the partnership between them on the field is highly anticipated.
