Madrid, Sep 12 (efe-epa).- Real Madrid announced Thursday that midfielder Luka Modric sustained a muscle injury, throwing his participation in an upcoming La Liga game against Levante into question.
"He (Modric) has been diagnosed with a muscular injury to the adductor in his right leg," Real Madrid said in a statement, adding that the Croatian player's recovery process will be monitored.
Besides Levante, the international will most probably miss the Champions League match against Paris Saint Germain scheduled for 18 September.
At the Euro Cup qualifiers and on his 34th birthday, Modric played the whole 90 minutes with his national team last Monday against Azerbaijan.
He also took part in the 4-0 win over Slovakia on 6 September.
On Wednesday, Modric did not train with the rest of the team but, according to Real Madrid, he worked out at the gym.
This is Modric's eighth muscle injury of the season - a season which has just begun - and this number of injuries have raised concerns among the club and the capital side's fans as well.
Modric adds to Zinedine Zidane's growing list of injuried players as the legendary French player and coach will not be able to count on midfielder Isco Alarcon as well as forward Marco Asensio of Spain as they are still recovering from injuries.
Zidane is still receiving the international players who were on duty with their national teams including Casemiro, Vinicius Jr. and Eder Militao, who have not joined today's training and will enjoy some recovery time.
France goalkeeper Alphonse Areola, the club's last signing, completed Thursday his first training as a Real Madrid player.
Germany midfielder Toni Kroos, Belgium goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, France defender Raphael Varane and Wales winger Gareth Bale exercised normally with the group, while Uruguay midfielder Federico Valverde worked out separately.
Some Real Madrid Castilla players were called up by Zidane to join the session; Altube, Blanco, Fidalgo and De la Fuente.
Meanwhile, Colombia midfielder James Rodriguez and Belgium forward Eden Hazard have just started to join the team since their injuries.
Real Madrid is set to host Levante on Saturday at Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. EFE
