Suzuki earns his maiden Moto3 victory at San Marino

Misano Adriatico, Italy, Sep 15 (efe-epa).- Japanese rider Tatsuki Suzuki (Honda) on Sunday earned his maiden victory at Misano's World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, the venue of the San Marino Moto3.

Suzuki, who dominated for sections of the race, fell into second during the later part of the race but managed to regain the top spot over the final stretch of a troubled race that saw 14 riders quitting the competition.

One of those who had to withdraw was Spaniard Aron Canet, albeit he maintained the second spot in the general classification.

Although he tried to resume the race on two occasions while struggling with technical issues his KTM forced him out of the race.

The race minimized the damage to the Spaniard in the general classification as his direct rival, Italy's Lorenzo dalla Porta (Honda) came eighth, meaning that he only conceded eight points.

Dalla Porta holds the first spot in the general classification with 179 points, followed by the Spaniard who has 157 points under his belt.

Suzuki imposed himself during the opening of the race in which the Italian conceded two more spots to his rivals; Japan's Ayumu Sasaki (Honda) and Spaniard Sergio Garcia (Estrella Galicia 0'0 Honda), despite his attempts to regain the lost ground.

Both Sasaki and Garcia were the first to hit the ground and ended up leaving the race, as did Japan's Kaito Toba (Honda) - who was the fastest during the morning free practice - after being involved in an accident with Kazakhstan's Makar Yurchenko (KTM).

Seeking out his maiden victory, Suzuki found fierce competition from his teammate Tony Arbolino of Italy, while Alonso Lopez (Estrella Galicia 0'0 Honda) hit the ground as he tried to gain territory.

The fight for the lead came down to a duel between Suzuki and Arbolino, while Aron Canet (KTM) was nipping at their heels ahead of Albert Arenas (KTM), who hit the ground.

It was in the fourth lap when Canet first struggled with a technical issue.

Canet's problem sparked confusion as several riders went off the track to avoid hitting the Spaniard, but they all managed to get back to business with the duo of Suzuki and Arbolino at the top, followed by Dalla Porta.

Canet returned to the track four laps later with the hope of making up for missed time only for problems to force him to stop again.

On his third attempt to resume the race, in the 14th lap, he had to give up even before getting out of the pit lane.

The fight for victory remained a duel between Suzuki and Arbolino, but Jaume Masia (KTM), Andrea Migno (KTM) and Lorenzo dalla Porta continued chasing them and were then joined by Japan's Ai Ogura (Honda), one of the few riders who relied on a rear hard tire.

With less than eight laps to the finish line Jaume Masia saw an opportunity and launched an attack aimed at Suzuki, who had built up a few meters lead, while Dalla Porta fought off the rest of the lead back.

Arbolino held off Masia's attack and maintained his position.

A few laps later Masia tried his luck once more, but again he was held off.

In the final lap, Dalla Porta was fifth, but he was handed a three second penalty for violating the circuit rules and fell to eighth. EFE-EPA
