New iPhone X draws lengthy crowds in major European cities

Madrid, Nov. 3 (efe-epa).- Scores of customers waited outside Apple Inc. stores in major European cities on Friday, eager to get their hands on the tech giant’s latest offering: the iPhone X.

In the Russian capital, Moscow, those angling to acquire the new smartphone braved the cold, forming a long queue for a device that has just gone on sale in 55 countries.

Many spent the night camped outside the American company’s only Muscovite store in temperatures below -5 degrees Celsius (23F), with local authorities placing warm buses nearby in order to avoid cases of hypothermia.

“It was worth it,” one of the first buyers, Dmitri, a young man in his twenties, told press outside the store after making his purchase.

Hordes also gathered in anticipation outside Apple stores in Spain, which opened their doors to customers at 8.00 am local time, Apple Spain sources told EFE.

About 400 people were said to have queued up outside Apple’s flagship store on Madrid’s most central square, Puerta del Sol, though some may have left disappointed with only limited units available, according to Apple.

Similar scenes played out in the Italian city of Milan, the British capital London, the German financial hub Frankfurt, and the Dutch capital Amsterdam, as seen in photographs released via epa.

The iPhone X features a large 5.8-inch “Super Retina” display that practically extends to the edges of the device and new face identification technology, while the signature start button is absent.
