Anisimova overwhelms Sabalenka to move into Australian Open round of 16

Melbourne, Australia, Jan 18 (efe-epa).- American teenager Amanda Anisimova upstaged No.11 seed Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka 6-3, 6-2 during their women's singles match Friday to move into the Australian Open fourth round.

Anisimova, 17, eased her way into the round of 16 after defeating 20-year-old Sabalenka, reigning champion of the recent tournament in Shenzhen, in a match that last just over an hour.

"This is an unreal feeling. I can't believe this is happening right now," Anisimova said.

"I was expecting a really tough match. She's a great player. So I really can't believe I got through this round. I'm feeling really good out here, I played some great tennis," she said.

The world No.87 has also become the first millennial to reach a major fourth round of Australian Open.

Anisimova, who has the chance of breaking the record of Maria Sharapova as the youngest player to win a Grand Slam (then 19 years), will go up against the winner of the match between the Czech Petra Kvitova (8) and Belinda Bencic from Switzerland in the next round.
