Carrie Fisher died from sleep apnea and other factors, says coroner

Los Angeles, Jun 17 (efe-epa).- American actress Carrie Fisher died from sleep apnea and other undetermined factors, according to the Los Angeles County coroner's office.

In a statement on Friday, the coroner's office said the "manner of death has been ruled undetermined".

In addition to sleep apnea, a condition in which a patient suffers periods of shallow breathing or pauses in breathing during sleep, the statement cited factors such a hearth disease and drug use as possible additional causes of the 60-year-old actor's death.

Fisher's daughter Billie Lourd on Friday night issued a statement to People magazine about the circumstances surrounding her mother's death.

"My mom battled drug addiction and mental illness her entire life. She ultimately died of it. She was purposefully open in all of her work about the social stigmas surrounding these diseases," she said.

Known around the world for her iconic role as Princess Leia in the "Star Wars" series, Fisher died in Los Angeles on Dec. 27, 2016 after suffering a stroke during a flight.
