Miss Earth 2018 candidates presented to media in Manila

Manila, Oct 11 (efe-epa).- Candidates for the annual Miss Earth beauty pageant were presented to the media at the Diamond Hotel in Manila on Thursday.

Women from 90 countries around the world are participating in this year's events, which will kick off with the National Costume Competition later on Thursday.

A bank of photographers snapped shots of the women clad in matching black bikinis as they strutted around the turquoise water of the swimming pool at the luxury hotel in the Philippine capital, an epa-efe journalist reported.

Over the course of the next few weeks, a series of competitions and promotional events are scheduled.

The pageant, which will include several events as part of the competition, and judge the women in categories such as Face and Poise, Figure, Intelligence, and Talent, as well as classic "disciplines" such as the Swimsuit and Long Gown competitions, culminates in early November with the coronation ceremony.

The pageant also claims to serve as a vehicle for environmental advocacy, with organizers Carousel Productions, Inc. "believing beauty queens would be a good and effective advocate of worthy causes."
