The Rock, Jason Statham, Idris Elba attend Fast and Furious premiere

Los Angeles, USA, Jul 14 (efe-epa).- Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Idris Elba and Jason Statham have in Los Angeles attended the world premiere of "Hobbs and Shaw," the first spin off of the successful Fast and Furious franchise.

Hobbs and Shaw's Saturday night premiere at the Dolby Theater was disrupted 30 minutes into the screening after an electrical issue caused sparks to fly, leading some viewers to jump out of their seats.

The film resumed following the intervention of technicians, who were able to solve the problem.

The Rock sported a brown suit with a white shirt, Statham, who joked around and took pictures with fans, showed up in an all-black suit, while Elba combined a grey suit with a black shirt.

English actress Vanessa Kirby and Mexico's Eiza Gonzalez joined the trio as part of the cast.

The movie follows Hobbs (the Rock) and Shaw (Statham), who must overcome their differences and join forces to stop powerful cyber-genetically enhanced villain Brixton (Elba).

The movie, directed by Deadpool 2 filmmaker David Leitch, will be released in theaters on August 2.

Fast and Furious is one of the most successful franchises in the history of cinema. Its eight movies have brought in over $5.1 billion to date, according to Box Office Mojo.

The Fast and the Furious, the first film of the original trilogy, was released in 2001 and accumulated over $200 million worldwide.

It starred Vin Diesel and Paul Walker, who died in 2013 in a car crash.

The movie was about undercover cop Brian O'Conner (Walker) who is assigned to infiltrate the world of underground street racing in Los Angeles.

The trilogy ended in 2006 with the Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift.

The saga was then extended with Fast and Furious (2009), Fast Five (2011), Fast and Furious 6 (2013), Furious 7 (2015), The Fate of the Furious (2017). EFE-EPA
