Chinese fashion firm brings New York all the style and attitude of "Colette"

New York, Sep 7 (efe-epa).- The Chinese firm Taoray Wang began its second day of New York Fashion Week with its 2020 spring-summer collection, very feminine and with a lot of attitude, inspired as it was by the recent movie about French author Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette.

Wang Tao, founder of the firm, told EFE backstage that when she saw the 2018 movie "Colette," she was "inspired by the style and spirit" of the writer, played by Keira Knightley: "She wears country clothes, but she is also a Parisian lady with three-piece suits."

The work of tailoring was therefore predominant in Wang's catwalk parade, with "American-style" jackets but also with dresses fitted at the waist and plunging V-shaped necklines with lapels on the side, all very professional looking.

"We offer many suits, which are the trademark of Taoray Wang. The difference is that we try not to give them a manly look, but rather we play with feminine colors and fabrics like lace and silk," the designer said.

Precisely the jackets in many cases are of the peplum cut and have more volume around the hips thanks to the layers of lace, a fabric with which a number of pants and skirts are tailored.

Wang noted the frills that were present on the first day of New York Fashion Week (NYFW), the sleeves with puffy shoulders, dresses with naked shoulders and the asymmetrical skirts, as well as the subtle transparencies.

Favored in the fashion parade were pastel colors, especially mint green and neutral shades like nude and white, though there were also darker laces and brocades, in almost every case the stuff of monochromatic designs.

Nor were accessories lacking, from wide black belts with brads around the waist to diamond bracelets to hats a la Borsalino.

Not on hand for the show was President Donald Trump's little daughter Tiffany, who debuted at NYFW a couple of years ago helping out with one of her fashion idols, but other Wang fans posed in the front row to have their pictures taken.

About "Colette," the designer and executive of Taoray Wang said she would make the "attitude" her own: "The way of dressing and of comporting herself - not just her style but also her spirit that lets no rules or judgments change her decisions - that's the attitude." EFE-EPA nqs/cd
