Ralph Lauren, Taoray Wang bring tailoring, glamor to New York Fashion Week

New York, Sep. 7 (EFE).- With a tribute to elegant tailoring, Ralph Lauren wowed the crowd on Saturday at New York Fashion Week, which was also marked by the glamor of Brandon Maxwell, Christian Siriano and Taoray Wang.

The American brand shone in its staging as it invited celebrities to “Ralph's Club,” a pop-up nightclub set in the 1930s in the heart of Wall Street, in which singer Janelle Monae performed with a live band.

In a parade format that went beyond the ordinary and was streamed online, models led by Gigi Hadid walked between tables of diners while wearing suits and flowing dresses.

Black and white dominated, with pops of electric blue, yellow and red in fabrics of satin, velvet and sequins, with which Ralph Lauren crafted his classic silhouettes.

Ensembles that stood out included dresses and jumpsuits in which the top half was made with a vest, long skirts that allowed movement and a red long-sleeved sequined dress with plunging deep-V worn by Bella Hadid.

Ralph Lauren had already been on everyone's lips last week during the US Tennis Open in New York, as his Polo brand is the official designer of the court uniforms and he invited familiar faces to attend wearing his creations.

On Saturday, there was also much anticipation for Brandon Maxwell — the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s womenswear designer of the year — who brought the extravagance with which he has dressed Lady Gaga for years to introduce a type of glamorous woman of simplicity.

Model Irina Shayk opened the show, which began with jeans and sweaters and evolved in sophistication, first with suit jackets and shorts, in satins and brights, and then with slinky dresses for night, and even a white bridal gown.

In terms of men's fashion, Maxwell opted for a classic but "cool" look, with loose-fit trouser suits and jackets in beige and black, pink and baby blue, red and forest green.

Christian Siriano made an ambitious presentation that honored the fine arts with huge canvases placed in the middle of the catwalk and proposed an inclusive collection of sizes worthy of both being worn on the street and the red carpet.

The designer, who won the 2008 "Project Runway" television competition and has since established himself in the fashion world, presented flattering suit jackets for the day, but made an impact with dresses with volume and strong colors in yellow, metallic green and rainbow stripes for the evening.

Flapper-style shiny black dresses with fringes, and the two majestic closing creations, with waterfalls of tulle and exaggerated silhouettes, in black combined with aquamarine, blue and fuchsia pink, were highlights of the evening.

Meanwhile, the Chinese brand Taoray Wang opened the day with a feminine Spring-Summer 2020 collection, inspired by the film "Colette" (2018), based on French author Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette.

Wang Tao, the brand's founder, told EFE behind the scenes that she was "inspired by the style and spirit" of the writer, so she made the costumes that were a symbol of her company playing with color, lace and silk.

Another brand that caught attention Saturday was Kate Spade, the show arranged in a garden where the models walked with plants under their arms and sporting spring ensembles including long dresses and prints in pastel colors. EFE
