EU Mission calls for inclusive dialogue in Honduras, opposition criticizes EU report

Tegucigalpa, Mar 7 (efe-epa).- The European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) to the Honduran 2017 elections on Saturday called for the establishment of an inclusive national dialogue to solve the post-electoral crisis as opposition parties questioned the European electoral report and described its shortcomings and deficiencies.
At a press conference in Tegucigalpa, Marisa Matías, the Portuguese member of the European Parliament (MEP) and head of the EU EOM appealed to Honduran politicians that participated in the Nov 26, 2017 elections, to "establish the groundwork towards an inclusive national dialogue enabling the advancement of pending electoral reforms."
"We underscore due to the polarized political climate the country is experiencing, that political dialogue is more important than ever and any reforms should be supported by the widest possible consensus."
The MEP stressed the need to be "inclusive and include all political actors." in the Central American nation.
Honduras is immersed in a political crisis after Salvador Nasralla, the presidential candidate of the Opposition Alliance Against the Dictatorship denounced an alleged electoral fraud which led to the re-election of Honduran president, Juan Orlando Hernández.
